The co-drivers view: Arnhem

These two videos will take you on a tour through the Dutch city of Arnhem. During the last year of the 2nd World War the allies launched a massive paratrooper offensive to secure the bridges over the Rhine, with the Arnhem Bridge being the furthest in land (about 70 kilometres behind enemy lines). Although the allies did make it to the southern suburbs of Arnhem, they failed to secure the Arnhem Bridge and end the war before Christmas 1944.

Driving from the south towards the northern part of the bridge (into the city of Arnhem), the two videos start off the same. But after passing the John Frostbridge into the city, the second video takes you on a tour through the city itself and back over another bridge towards the south while the first video exits the city driving through the northern part of Arnhem.

For a video of the bridge at Nijmegen, that also played an important role during operation Market Garden, please click this video.
